Kwara United Football Club has been drawn to play AS Douanes of Niger Republic in the preliminary rounds of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Championship, and the winner of that fixture will face the defending champions, RS Berkane of Morocco.
This comes after the Confederations of African Football (CAF) conducted the draws on Tuesday afternoon in Cairo, Egypt.
The first preliminary rounds will be played on home and away basis, with Kwara United hosting the first leg between 09 – 11 September 2022. The second leg will hold between 16 – 18 September 2022.
Kwara United finished 4th at the outgone Nigerian Professional Football League season and were picked by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to campaign in the Confederations Cup.
Clubs have also been reminded that registration of players as of the 1st preliminary round should be done between 01 – 15 August.

Clubs from 56 African countries will be participating in the competition, which will be the 20th edition of Africa’s secondary club football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), under the current CAF Confederation Cup title after the merger of CAF Cup and African Cup Winners’ Cup.
The second preliminary Round will hold between 07 – 9 October (First leg), and – 14 – 16 October (Second leg), 2022
Unlike the last 3 previous seasons, the final of this edition will be played in a two-legged format.
The winners will automatically qualify for the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup, and also earn the right to play against the winners of the 2022–23 CAF Champions League in the 2023 CAF Super Cup.
As things stand now, Kwara State Government will have to speed up process for Kwara State Stadium to be given the green light to host the CAF games.
CAF officials will visit the Ilorin stadium for inspection and failure of the ground to meet necessary requirements means that Kwara United will have to find alternative venue to host their home game.
