The Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has joined millions of Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
In a statement issued to journalists, Senator Usman stated that “while we acknowledge the many missed opportunities and unfulfilled expectations over the decades, we must also recognise that there is much to celebrate.”
The Labour Party’s Chieftain also noted that “our continued existence as one indivisible nation – despite numerous challenges over the past 65 years – speaks to our collective resolve and the understanding that our strength lies in our unity and diversity.”
She urged citizens to hold leaders accountable for meaningful change and good governance.
“We must remember that meaningful change will only come when we, as citizens, rise to hold leaders accountable – an obligation that cannot be fulfilled through resignation or despair.”
She further called on all those in positions of leadership to govern with empathy, justice, and transparency, bearing in mind that no nation has ever achieved true development without deliberately prioritising the welfare of its citizens
