The Lagos State Government and the Government of the People’s Republic of China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cultural and tourism partnerships aimed at preserving heritage and fostering economic opportunities.

The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, stated this during a courtesy visit by senior Chinese officials to the ministry’s headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday.

He explained that the collaboration would not only strengthen ties between Lagos and China but also expand opportunities in heritage protection, job creation, tourism development, and travel policies.

“This ministry is passionate about the development and implementation of strategic plans to drive cultural growth, foster artistic and creative development, and showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic expressions unique to Lagos State,” Aregbe said.

He welcomed China’s interest in Lagos’ cultural initiatives, particularly the 72-hour Lagos Cultural Weekend and the state’s broader cultural calendar. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chinese community in Lagos, pledging the government’s support to make the state a second home for Chinese nationals.

For his part, Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, reaffirmed China’s commitment to cultural and tourism programmes that would benefit both Lagos residents and the wider Nigerian society.
