The Commission has raised concerns over a growing trend of overcrowding in numerous clubs and lounges across Lagos during the festive season, highlighting the associated safety risks.

In a statement released by its Public Affairs Office, the Director General/CEO of the Lagos Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, stated that the State Government strongly disapproves of this development and has initiated intensive inspections to enforce compliance. He further warned that any establishment found violating these safety regulations would face immediate closure and potential legal actions as necessary.

He said “While we support the vibrant nightlife and the economic benefits it brings, we must emphasize the paramount importance of adhering to authorized occupancy limits as approved by the Commission.

“On no account should any nightclub allow overcrowding which poses significant safety risks, including the potential for fire hazards, smoking in the public spaces, compromised emergency exits, and increased likelihood of accidents. These risks will not only endanger the lives of patrons but also the staff and that of the general public. So, let us work together to keep Lagos safe and thriving.”

Mojola, however, calls on all hospitality venue owners and operators to adhere to the established safety measures and occupancy limits, emphasizing that these regulations are designed to safeguard the safety and well-being of all residents.

He also appealed for the continued cooperation and support of all stakeholders in ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. He encouraged them to reach out to the Commission at 07000SAFETY for additional guidance.
