The Lagos State Government, Southwest Nigeria, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, has commenced the registration of farmers under the Produce for Lagos Programme.

The Produce for Lagos Initiative is a strategic programme designed to stimulate increased food production for the Lagos market through structured off-take agreements.

In a statement signed by the Ministry, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said “the arrangement would reduce the risks of quality and volume fluctuations, promote price stability for consumers, and increase farmers’ incomes.”

She said: “With a population of over 24 million residents and rapid urban growth, Lagos remains the single largest consumer of food in Nigeria.

“Under this initiative, farmers will enjoy direct access to a secured market where their produce will be purchased at guaranteed prices.

“Furthermore, it will expand opportunities for inter-state agricultural trade, enhance logistics and distribution networks, and strengthen the entire food supply chain.”

According to her, the programme focuses on both boosting food production within Lagos and establishing strategic partnerships with farmers in major food-producing states across the country.

Olusanya maintained that by enrolling, farmers would be integrated into a central database, which will serve as the foundation for planning, interventions, and the delivery of support services under the programme.

Farmers are therefore encouraged to register via the official link:http://bit.ly/48dAWiI.
