The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised his continued support to the families of the fallen heroes who made sacrifices to ensure our territorial integrity is protected.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave this assurance at the parade and laying of wreaths ceremony to commemorate the 2023 Armed Forces and Remembrance day held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadiri Hamzat said that the relatively peaceful ambience being enjoyed today across the country could be attributed to the formidable spirit and supreme sacrifices of the Armed Forces.
He however enjoined everyone to give adequate support to enable them excel in the discharge of their duties.
“The people and Government of Lagos State appreciate the efforts of our military in protecting the integrity of our country, without that we really cannot do much.
“Lagos as a state has always and will continue to support the Military and all the para-military agencies that are responsible for maintaining our security and at the same time we remember the souls of those who have departed while defending the territorial integrity of our country,” he said
The Governor mentioned that there are numerous plans for their wives, whom they left behind as government has been giving helping hands to them.
According to him, “the wives of the fallen heroes too are our priority and as you know, people needs differ, as they come, we have been given support and we will continue to support them.”
The Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, Mr. Anofiu Elegusi said that the relationship between the government and the armed forces has been a robust one, stressing stronger ties in the years ahead.
He said that the State Government has been extending gestures to the armed forces and particularly the families of the fallen heroes and this will be a continuous engagement.
He said “And for the families of the fallen heroes, Lagos State has been maintaining the families, last year Mr. Governor gave largesse to them and he still keep his promise to assist them anytime any day.”
Stronger ties
The Commissioner maintained that last year, the State held a general empowerment program for the family of the deceased armed men and besides that they were also engaged at individual levels.
The parade and laying of wreaths ceremony completed this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance day events which started with Jumm’at Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
