Member representing Enugu North/South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Chima Sam Atu, says the leadership of the House is working towards addressing issues affecting the South Eastern part of Nigeria.
He said that issues such as insecurities, youths restiveness, unemployment, violence were some of the issues the tenth assembly hopes to address.
Honourable Atu said with the cordial relationship between the Speaker, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas and the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Benjamin Kalu would trickle down to the people and has the potential to alleviate poverty.
Economic growth
The Lawmaker also said that he supports the governor of Enugu state, Mr. Peter Mba’s bold step in eradicating the Monday ” Sit-at-home” syndrome which was hindering economic growth of the state.
“I am supporting the governor of Enugu state to make sure there’s security even though security is everybody’s business. We should ensure that there’s security because where there’s security, there’s progress. I will give him full support to ensure that businesses starts going on well.” Hon Atu said.
Intervene
Speaking on the issue of flood disaster ravaging the south east, Hon Atu called on the federal government to intervene for the good of the people.
He said that he was one of the first member to moved a motion at one of the plenaries on erosion control in the south east and Enugu state in particular as erosion has ravaged the south east.
The Labour Party first time lawmaker also says he is into poltiics to improve the lives of his constituents and Nigerians.
Hon Atu, who worked in the oil sector before emerging as a member of the House of Representatives, said he will ensure be does his quota the development of Nigeria.
According to him, staying outside politics will never make a change and that is why he got in to implement change and that with time, people will start seeing what has been achieved.
Make Nigeria Great
Talking about his expectations in the 10th assembly, he said he expects a robust debate on how to make Nigeria great.
He also pointed out that issues bordering on security, food and shelter for the Nigerians should be the priority of everyone not government alone.
The young lawmaker also said that what makes Nigerian youths to get involved in violence is poverty.
He however advised the youths to desist from crime and not allow themselves to he used as political thuggery.
He said that the Labour Party has moving Nigeria forward as one of its mandates for working for Nigerians.
“The labour party is not a minority, but a majority because Nigerians want us. Our blueprint is for Nigeria to move from a consumption country to a production country and provide security, education, housing, provision of accommodation, agriculture and good health for the citizens. Our job is to ensure Nigerians are alright,” he said.
He added that he was optimistic that things will turn for better in Nigeria soon.
