A leadership and mentorship retreat has opened in Kafanchan, Southern Kaduna, with a strong call on young student leaders to embrace discipline, integrity and vision as guiding principles for national development.

The retreat, themed “Nurturing Young Leaders for Sustainable Development,” brought together head boys and girls from basic and post-basic schools, alongside educators, mentors and stakeholders, to equip them with skills for responsible leadership and nation-building.

Delivering the keynote address, Rector of St. Charles Borromeo Minor Seminary, Madakiya, Rev. Fr. Romanus Jega, emphasised that the future of Nigeria rests on leaders who are visionary, service-oriented and anchored on moral values.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Air Commodore Musa Aileru, encouraged the students to cultivate patriotism and integrity, noting that leadership must be nurtured from an early age.

Member representing Jema’a and Sanga Federal Constituency, Mr. Daniel Amos, commended the initiative, describing it as “an incubator of future leaders.

Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area, Mr. Peter Tanko, pledged support for grassroots mentorship programmes that empower the youth through education and training.

The Executive Director of Godspeed Leadership and Mentorship Development Initiative (GLEMDI), Mr. Habila Kayit, said the retreat was designed to instill discipline, values and vision in student leaders, thanking dignitaries and partners for supporting the drive to raise leaders for Nigeria’s sustainable future.

As part of the retreat, tree seedlings were distributed to participating schools, symbolising the connection between leadership, sustainability and environmental stewardship.
