Liverpool put up a brilliant performance as they thrashed Manchester United 7-0 in the Premier League, with Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah each scoring two goals and Roberto Firmino adding another at Anfield.
The hosts featured a front-three of Egyptian Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez. For Manchester United, Wout Weghorst started in attack with Marcus Rashford and Antony supporting on the flanks.
Just before halftime, Gakpo opened the scoring for Liverpool after the Dutch forward beat Manchester United defender Raphael Varane, before placing the ball calmly into the net past goalkeeper David De Gea.
Early in the second half, Liverpool extended the lead after a cross from midfielder Harvey Elliot was headed into the net by Nunez.
Three minutes later, Gakpo scored again after a brilliant counter attack. Salah did well to dribble past Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez, before finding Gakpo who chipped the ball past De Gea to make the scores 3-0.
From another counter attack, the ball fell to Salah in the box and the Egyptian international fired a thunderbolt into the net to send the fans at Anfield into a frenzy in the 66th minute. 4-0!!! to Liverpool.
However, Liverpool weren’t finished with the scoring and in the 75th minute, Nunez scored his second after heading the ball past De Gea in brilliant fashion. In the 83rd minute, Salah then scored his second of the night after the ball fell to him again in the box. The Egyptian tapped the ball into the net to silence the Manchester United fans.
Substitute Firmino then put the icing on the cake in the 88th minute, slotting the ball between the legs of goalkeeper De Gea to complete the 7-0 thrashing at Anfield.
Liverpool have now revived its hopes for a top-4 finish after a brilliant performance at Anfield.

Liverpool now move above Newcastle on the Premier League table to fifth, with 42 points from 25 games. For Manchester United, they remain in third place with 49 points from 25 games.
Up next for Liverpool is Bournemouth in the Premier League, before facing Real Madrid in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last 16 encounter. Manchester United will face Real Betis in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League last 16 tie, before playing Southampton in the Premier League.
