Manchester City secured a dramatic 2–1 win against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, courtesy of Erling Haaland’s stoppage-time penalty that cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to six (6) points.
The visitors dominated possession early and nearly took the lead inside two minutes when Haaland was played through, only for goalkeeper Alisson to race off his line and deny him. Liverpool struggled to create chances in the first half, failing to register a shot on target.
The hosts improved markedly after halftime, with Dominik Szoboszlai testing goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma before curling in a stunning free kick to ignite Anfield.

Manchester City, however, responded quickly as Bernardo Silva gave his side a glimmer of hope in the encounter.
Haaland nodded the ball into Silva’s path for the equaliser after a brilliant piece of play.

The decisive moment arrived in added time when Alisson fouled Matheus Nunes inside the box for a penalty.
Haaland stepped up and converted, scoring his first-ever league goal at Anfield to silence the home crowd.

City’s winner came amid a chaotic finale. Rayan Cherki appeared to score from near the halfway line with Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson stranded upfield, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR review.
Instead, City were awarded a free kick, and Szoboszlai was sent off for pulling Haaland’s shirt during the scramble as Manchester City secured the victory.

“What a game. It was a brilliant advert for the Premier League,” City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters. “After that incredible free kick, our response, led by Bernardo, was outstanding.”
The victory keeps Guardiola’s side firmly in the title hunt, while Liverpool slipped to sixth place, now 11 points behind City.
