The House of Representatives says the proposed minimum wage Bill is only a proposal that must pass through several stages before becoming a law.
The leader of the House, Alh Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, made the remark while addressing members of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, who were at the National Assembly to Protest against the Bill.
Alh Ado-Doguwa, explained that the Bill must pass through a public hearing to listen to the views of all stakeholders including the NLC, to discuss with the Constitution review committee to make their position known.
The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Sabi Abdullahi, gave the assurance that the interest of the Nigerian workers will be protected by the National Assembly.
The President of the Nigerian labour Congress NLC, Comerade Ayuba Waba, described the Bill as retrogressive.
Comerade Waba stated that the NLC will declare an indefinite strike if the bill is passed without their concerns met.
