The Nigerian Mining Cadastre office has unveiled its electronic registration portal to enhance the agency’s smooth operation in the mining sector.

The initiative is in line with Federal government’s policy of ease of doing business in Nigeria.

The Director General of the agency, Engineer Obadiah Simon Nkom explained the primary purpose of the new portal.

“EMC+ is an electronic mining cadastral system and you are very much aware the mandate of the Nigerian Mining Cadastral is administration and managing of mineral titles and we must be able to do it in a best way possible and in line with the law”

Engineer Nkom also explains how the system works saying “initially we are computerized but we have now migrated to an online system which means that you can stay from any part of the world even with your smart phones to be able to have access to this system and by the time you access to mining information system it makes the system transparent”

While explaining some benefits of the new system, the DG said “we are talking about ease of doing business and we are talking about somebody in Australia that does not need to spend two days or three days to come to Nigeria and all he needs to do is to use his phone or system and it reduces the travel time and at end of the day you will find out that it become more cost effective, more efficient and more easily usable”

Engineer Nkom explained that despite the challenges of the COVID 19 pandemic, the agency has improved on its revenue generation up to eighty-five percent increase.
