Nigeria’s Minister of Sports and Youth Development Sunday Dare congratulated the Lagos State Football Association chairman, Seyi Akinwunmi on his 60th birthday.

Akinwunmi, a former Nigeria Football Federation’s first Vice President clocked 60 on Thursday, the 29th of December, 2022.

Akinwunmi’s commitment to grassroots football development and charity has endeared him to many football stakeholders within and outside the country, a trait that the Sports Minister wants others to emulate.

As I celebrate you your 60th birthday, I want to highlight the trait that has marked you out for special recognition among your peers. It is your commitment to the grassroots and your large-heartedness in giving back to the less privileged through your various charity outreaches. Please keep it up,” the Minister said.

The birthday celebration started last week in Lagos with the annual Seyi Akinwunmi Charity Foundation programme where activities took place.

The event witnessed 1000 kids participating in various activities, including a high-class football match between top Nigerian sides.

Speaking during one of the programmes, Seyi Akinwunmi, said “putting smiles on people’s faces, especially the less privileged people has been his joy.”

“Putting smiles on people’s faces has been my priority. For me, I will go to any length in enhancing the less privileged, especially the kids. The joy on the faces of the children is a real driving force for me and everyone involved in this project. We always look forward to it, every year, as we all have acted into it. Hopefully, we would continue to do more,” he said.

It would be recalled that over 40 children between 12 and 15 years have in the past eight years remained in school courtesy of the foundation.

The Foundation has also supported more than 200 indigent students in collaboration with the Courage Education Foundation which was also conceived and co-founded by Seyi Akinwunmi over 17 years ago.

The Seyi Akinwunmi Charity Foundation (SACF), is a Charity Foundation committed to the education and empowerment of the indigent child in Nigeria.
