Nigeria’s Sports Minister Lauds Athletes Performance In African Games

The minister for sports development senator John Owan Enoh has lauded the performance of  Team Nigeria at the just concluded 13th All African games held in Accra Ghana, where Nigerian came overall second best with a an impressive medal haul of 121 medals comprising of 47 gold , 33 silver and 41bronze medals.

He made this know in parley with the press at media centre of the Moshoood Abiola stadium Abuja, where he gave a breakdown of achievements, programmes and projections of the ministry

 

The minister revealed that the secret of this impressive performance was due to the establishment of a high performance center in port Harcourt that left athletes in peak form to perform at the games

 

He also noted that in this new era of financial prudence, accountability and transparency the ministry working closely with the CBN  has ensured timely and direct payment of games and camp allowance to athletes has led to end of the era of athletes being shortchanged

 

He also shed light on ministries in implementation of revolutionary policies to accelerate sports development in the country including sports men active and retired, funding and infrastructural development and grassroot sports development through the revitalization of school sports and finally positioning of sports as a business to serve as a means of livelihood for athletes and revenue for government
