The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027.

The Minister, who is a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, insisted that the party has failed to learn from its lingering internal crisis.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital, Wike said his decision ws based on principle and performance, not party lines.

“As it is today, my party seems not to have learned, and I am also going to support the President for a second term in office,” he stated.

The former Rivers State governor disclosed that the PDP never consulted him on candidates it intended to field, stressing that he had made his position clear from the onset.

“I made it clear that I would only support candidates who backed the President. I never said I would support that particular party, but I did say I would support candidates who are in favour of Mr. President, regardless of which party they are from,” he said.

He dismissed suggestions that his stance amounts to anti-party activity, maintaining that his loyalty is to individuals aligned with his political convictions.

“That’s where I’m going to focus my support. So the problem of me being part of a group that’s working for another group doesn’t come up,” he added.

His declaration is expected to further stir debates within the PDP as political alignments begin to shape ahead of the 2027 general election.
