Ministries collaborate to Tackle Child Abuse and Misuse of Donor Funds

The Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has unveil plans to tackle Child Abuse and misuse of Donor Funds in the country.

The Honorable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Uju Kenedy-Ohanenya articulated a comprehensive strategy aimed at addressing pressing issues plaguing Nigerian society.

While outlining her plans during a meeting with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate in Abuja, the nations capital, the minister shed light on critical areas demanding immediate attention.

“The rampant maltreatment of children, particularly as domestic help in households, cases of abuse and exploitation, there is need for robust intervention to safeguard the rights and well-being of vulnerable children,” she said.

Barr. Kenedy-Ohanenya expressed deep dismay over the misappropriation of donor funds meant for women empowerment initiatives.

“With transparency and accountability at the forefront, there are plans to overhaul the management and allocation of such resources, ensuring they reach intended beneficiaries and catalyze meaningful change,” she added.

Notably, the Women Affairs minister emphasized the importance of integrity in all endeavors, condemning fraudulent practices that undermine progress and perpetuate injustice.

“By instilling a culture of accountability and ethical conduct, my plan aims to restore trust and credibility in governance while combating corruption at its core,” she said.

The minister unveiled ambitious programs aimed at empowering women economically and socially. Through cooperative initiatives and access to essential resources, she envisions a future where women are equipped to thrive and contribute meaningfully to society.

“There is need to support individuals at every stage of life, from adolescence to old age,” he said.

He outlined a comprehensive approach encompassing education, health care, and economic empowerment to ensure the holistic development of individuals and communities.

The minister echoed the commitment to zero tolerance for child maltreatment and pledged to optimize the utilization of developmental resources.

“With a focus on transparency and accountability, there is need for effective allocation of funds to benefit the intended recipients and advance national development goals,” he added.

Thee minister emphasized the importance of saving lives as the foremost priority and pledged to uphold the integrity of health professionals.

He highlighted efforts to strengthen regulatory bodies and ensure adherence to professional standards across healthcare facilities, both public and private.

“I reiterates the administration’s commitment to openness and responsiveness to citizens’ concerns. the collaborative nature of governance, there is need for continued engagement and feedback from stakeholders to drive progress and achieve the collective vision of a prosperous and healthy Nigeria,” he said.

In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Kachollom Daju, emphasized the significance of gender and women’s issues in the country and highlighted the collaborative effort between ministries, stressing the importance of partnership in addressing these crucial matters.

Daju expressed gratitude to the attending ministers for their dedication to discussing pertinent issues affecting the nation, particularly those related to gender and social development.
