The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has inaugurated the Departmental Award Selection Committee (DASCO) to entrench a transparent, fair, and merit-driven reward and recognition system for staff performance.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore said the inauguration was in compliance with directives from the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), which requires all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to establish DASCOs.
According to him, “The HCSF mandates all MDAs to set up and inaugurate DASCOs in their respective institutions to institutionalise a transparent and merit-driven reward and recognition system for best performing staff.”
Belgore stressed that motivating staff is vital for effective service delivery, organisational harmony, and the fulfilment of the Ministry’s housing and urban development mandate.
He said that “fostering a culture of excellence would boost productivity, professionalism, and staff commitment.”
The committee’s responsibilities include; developing and applying objective criteria for the nomination and selection of deserving staff for awards, ensuring transparency and fairness in the process, promoting inclusiveness across cadres and units, and submitting regular reports to the Staff Welfare Unit for onward transmission to the OHCSF for monitoring.
The Permanent Secretary further noted that committee members were chosen for their integrity, professionalism, and dedication to public service values.
“You are expected to uphold the highest standards of fairness, objectivity, and confidentiality in carrying out this assignment. The credibility of our reward and recognition framework rests on the impartiality of your work,” he said.
The Director of Human Resources Management, Dr. Akinola Adeshina highlighted the importance of DASCO to the Ministry’s growth.
“This inauguration demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Permanent Secretary to ensuring the Ministry’s mandate of providing enhanced service delivery is achieved,” Dr Adeshina stated.
The initiative is expected to strengthen accountability, encourage excellence, and institutionalise a results-driven work culture within the Ministry.
