The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has received five swamp buggies donated by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the Borno State Government to strengthen security and revitalise economic activities in the Lake Chad region.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Military Public Information Officer, MNJTF Headquarters, N’Djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the delivery of the specialised equipment marks a significant step in enhancing the Task Force’s operational infrastructure.
The official handover ceremony was held at the Navy Base, Lake Chad Fish Dam, where the Governor of Borno State, represented by Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Kadafur, commissioned the swamp buggies.

He stated that the donation reflected the commitment of political leaders to stabilising the Lake Chad Basin, emphasising that the equipment will play a vital role in enhancing waterway clearance operations, ensuring safer navigation, and revitalising economic activity in the area.
The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Major General Godwin Mutkut, expressed appreciation to the contributing countries for their continued support, particularly acknowledging the efforts of the Borno State Government and the NEDC in coordinating the initiative.
“These swamp buggies will significantly enhance our riverine operations, improving mobility and responsiveness in confronting terrorist threats,” General Mutkut said.
He further noted that the new equipment would provide essential logistical support, sustaining the MNJTF’s momentum in counterterrorism efforts and promoting long-term regional stability.

“This collaborative effort underscores a united front against insecurity and a shared commitment to restoring peace and prosperity to the Lake Chad Basin,” he added.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Governor of the Region of Lake Chad, General Saleh Haggar Tidjani; senior MNJTF commanders; traditional rulers; and government officials from Borno State and the wider Lake Chad region.
