Morocco Stuns Belgium 2-0 At FIFA World Cup

The Atlas Lions of Morocco put up a brilliant performance in Group F of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, beating second-best ranked team Belgium as the Africans sealed a stunning 2-0 victory in brilliant fashion, at the Al Thumama Stadium in Doha.

Early in the game, Morocco goalkeeper Munir El Kajoui did well to keep out Michy Batshuayi. Then just before halftime, Hakim Ziyech scored from a free-kick only for his goal to be ruled out for offside. Morocco captain Romain Saiss was in an offside position and blocking the view of Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

In the second half, Belgium couldn’t find a way past Morocco’s tough defence as they looked for chances through star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. In the 73rd minute, Substitute Abdelhamid Sabiri scored a lovely free-kick for the Africans from a tight angle, beating Courtois to send the fans at the Al Thumama Stadium into a frenzy.

The goal shook Belgium as they had no answers after conceding. They tried to find a way back into the match, but were caught napping as Morocco struck again in second half stoppage time.

A brilliant pass from winger Ziyech found Substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal, who made no mistake as he fired in a shot to seal a huge win for Morocco in world football’s biggest stage.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco now tops Group F with four (4) points from two matches, while Belgium remains in second place with three (3) points, pending the result of the match between Croatia and Canada.

The Africans will now head into the last game of the Group brimming with confidence after recording its first victory in the 2022 edition of the FIFA World Cup.
