The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports regarding the precautionary diversion of its C-130 transport aircraft en route to Portugal for scheduled maintenance on 8 December 2025.

The Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, explained in a statement that shortly after takeoff from Lagos, the crew detected a technical concern requiring immediate attention. In line with international aviation protocols and strict safety procedures, the aircraft was diverted to the nearest airfield in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.

He confirmed that the flight crew safely landed the aircraft and had since been accorded cordial support by the host authorities. Ejodame emphasised that the precautionary landing was necessary to ensure the safety of both personnel and equipment.

The Air Force spokesperson further said that technical assessments are being conducted to address the concern, while arrangements are underway to enable the continuation of the ferry mission to Portugal as planned.

Ejodame expressed the Nigerian Air Force’s appreciation to the Burkina Faso authorities for their cooperation and assistance throughout the period.

He reassured the public that the NAF remains firmly committed to operational safety, adherence to established procedures, and the effective execution of its constitutional mandate.
