The Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) on Thursday reached out to widows in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, Southwest Nigeria with relief materials.
The humanitarian outreach which was held at Government Technical College, Osogbo was in commemoration of NAF’s 59th Anniversary and the 2023 Nigerian Air Force Day celebration.
President of the Association, Mrs Olubunmi Amao, said the outreach was in fulfilment of the group’s mission to give succour to the less privileged.
She explained that the association’s core value was service to humanity and that it had four different means of impacting society.
“As an Association, our vision is driven by our motto, which is ‘Service to Humanity’. Hence, the overall objective of the Association is to promote the welfare and well-being of its members, the public and the less privileged in society.
“This objective is achieved through the education of our children, women empowerment through skills acquisition, giving succour to the less privileged in the society and performing both humanitarian/medical outreaches,” she said.
Amao who noted that women and children needed more care and support, said NAFOWA was committed to helping them to the best of its ability.
She urged beneficiaries to accept the gifts as a token of NAFOWA’s commitment to improving their living conditions.
She said: “While these may not completely address all your challenges, we hope that they go a long way to complement your efforts in supporting your children and other dependants in your care”.
While responding, the wife of Osun State Governor, Erelu Ngozi Adeleke, lauded NAFOWA for remembering widows in Osun State and for coming to their aid.
She said: “This is a programme that touches my heart. I am delighted to be here. Touching the lives of women, particularly widows is a thing that gives me joy.
Widows go through a lot and they deserve all the love, support and help they can get from all of us.
“I thank NAFOWA for procuring these relief materials for widows in Osun State and pray that God replenishes you in manifolds.”
Various food items in sacks, noodles and beverages among other items were distributed among carefully identified and selected widows in the state.
