As part of activities to mark the 2022 16 Days of Activism, community collaboration and synergy among all stakeholders at all levels has been described as a potent mechanism in countering Sexual and Gender-Based violence across the Country.
The Director General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, Dr. Fatima Waziri-Azi, stated this at a Sensitization and Awareness outreach in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement made available to journalists by the Agency’s Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye, in Abuja, the Director General noted that the sensitization of communities in the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory was a major focus for the Agency in commemorating the Sixteen Days of Activism.
“We decided to travel to this community and meet with the community members and also have an assessment of your environment and this is part of our activities for the 16 Days of Activism dedicated towards issues of domestic violence and towards issues of sexual violence that happens to women, happens to men, happens to boys and happens to girls.”
Dr. Waziri-Azi called on community and religious leaders to continue in the effort of admonishing members of the community to stop the practice of traditions and customs that are harmful in the society
Chairman of the Council, Honorable John Gabaya, promised that the Council will join hands with NAPTIP in the fight against Sexual and Gender-based Violence in the Area Council.
