Nasarawa Speaker Calls For developmental journalism

Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly in North-Central Nigeria,  Balarabe Abdullahi has charged Journalists to continue to focus more on developmental journalism and factual reportage for the overall development of the state and the country at large.

The Speaker, gave the task during the lecture series to usher in new executives organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) in Lafia the state capital.

The Speaker, represented by Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, Chairman, House Committee on Information said that if journalists embraced developmental journalism, it would go a long way in not only promoting peace but speedy development in the State.

According to the Speaker, you must report what will be of benefit to the State, and what will promote peace and harmony.

The Speaker while commending the chapel for organizing the lecture series, urged journalists to continue to adhere strictly to their professional ethics before, during, and after the 2023 general election.

” I want to commend you for organizing this lecture series and for always publicizing the activities of the House and that of the government State positively and I urged you to sustain the spirit. 

” So far, you have been fair in reporting our activities, especially our proceedings, public hearings, and oversight functions among other activities and I call for its sustenance,” he said

He also advised the journalists to ensure positive, factual, and balanced reportage in the interest of peace and societal development.

He further assured of continued partnership with the media practitioners considering their critical roles in society.

“We will continue to accord you the needed support and an enabling environment for journalism practice “ he added

In his remarks, the Chairman of Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr. Isaac Ukpoju, appreciated the Speaker and other dignitaries for attending the event and supporting the activities of the chapel to succeed.

The chairman said that Journalists would continue to be professional while discharging their duties.
