Nasarawa Speaker mourns the late Chris Alli

The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Balarabe Abdullahi, has condoled Nigerians over the death of former Chief of Army Staff, Major General Chris Alli.

The Speaker, in a statement signed by his Press Secretary, Jibrin Gwamna, in Lafia, described the demise of the former Army Chief and Chairman of Ohiku-Egbira Descendants Union (OEDU) in Kogi State as colossal and shocking.

He prayed God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal bliss in his final abode adding that his demise would continue to be felt by the entire Egbira people within and outside the country.

Speaker Abdullahi described death as a necessary end to all mortals and enjoined all to see the demise of General Chris Alli as the will of God and accept it in good faith.

He sympathized with his immediate family members, friends, associates and the entire Egbira nation as well as the country at large over the painful exit of the great soldier whom he said has left a footprint in the sand of time and will therefore be forever remembered.

Born on 25 December 1944, in Koton Karfe, Kogi State, the late Army Chief’s sojourn in the Nigerian Army began on 20 October 1967, as a member of the Emergency Short Service Combatant Course.

He served as Chief of Army Staff from 1993 to 1994 under the then Head of State, General Sani Abacha and was Military Administrator of Plateau State Nigeria from August 1985 to 1986 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Many years later, he was appointed interim administrator of Plateau State during a 2004 crisis in the state following ethno-religious killings in Shendam, Yelwa Local Government.

Major-General Alli also served as the Director of Military Intelligence (DMI), before his elevation to Chief of Army Staff.

The late Major General Chris Alli died after an illness on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Military Hospital, Lagos State.
