By Amina Mohammed, Lafia.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Lucky Yargwa, has sent a congratulatory message to Team Nasarawa athletes doing the State proud at the 15th edition of the Panama (West African) and Cottage Mills Open Taekwondo Championship taking place in Lagos, Southern Nigeria.
So far, Team Nasarawa has won three Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals at the championships. The State’s Sports Commissioner also promised to reward each of the medalists handsomely.
Yargwa, who has been monitoring the progress of the team at the Championships, said the performance of the athletes is heartwarming and a direct reward for the commitment and huge investment of the Governor Abdullahi Sule-led administration in youth and sports development across the State.
“I have been following up on our athletes participating at the Championship in Lagos, and the news today is nothing but breathtaking,” Yargwa said. “We are so proud of their outing over there. It’s the joy of every parent to see their children excel, and we at the Ministry can’t feel otherwise.”
“We thank God for the record they are setting at the Championship, but this is equally not unconnected with the foundation we have laid for our sportsmen and women.
The Sule Government priorities sports, youth development, and has given every needed support for the attainment of success. Our reward system is to encourage the athletes, their coaches, and create healthy competition and enhance performance at sporting championships.”
“It’s our hope that our taekwondoists will win more medals before the event comes to an end,” Commissioner concluded.
Team Nasarawa will be hoping to increase its medals haul before the end of the five-day championship, which concludes on Monday, 15th August, 2022.
States from across Nigeria and other neighbouring West African Countries are featuring in the Championship, with participants featuring in Cadets and Juniors.
