Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has flagged off free medical services to the vulnerable and less privileged in the state as part of activities to commemorate his second anniversary in office.
The governor also presented cards to people from Doma LGA to enrol in the Nassarawa State Health Insurance Scheme (NSHIS), an initiative to provide affordable and cheap healthcare services.
Speaking at the flag-off in Doma LGA, the Commissioner for Health, Mr. Ahmed Yahaya said the free medical services initiative was aimed at providing services including surgery to the less privileged in the state.
The Commissioner said that the services were going on simultaenously across the entire 13 LGAs of the state.
He explained that Medical Doctors, Pharmacists, Nurses, Medical Lab Scientists among other medical personnel were deployed to ensure the success of the exercise.
Yahaya noted that the outreach had started on Monday in Doma LGA and the team had already carried out over 40 surgeries.
He added that one of the beneficiaries of the surgery was a woman who delivered twins through Caesarean Surgery(CS).
The Commissioner said the team also attended and treated over 400 persons with different health challenges.
He also said the NSHIS was initiated by the government to cater to the health needs of the people especially the low-income earners.
He therefore called on the entire citizens of the state to key into the health insurance scheme to better their living conditions.
