National Convention: Labour Party Elects New National Leadership

The Labour Party in Nigeria has elected new National Leaders that will run the affairs of the party.

The National Chairman of the Labour Party in Nigeria Mr Julius Abure was re-elected for a second term by a unanimous affirmation of delegates.

The Chairman of the Labour Party’s National Convention and Deputy Governor of Abia State, Mr Ikechukwu Emetu declared Mr Abure the winner during the party’s national convention held on Wednesday in Nnewi, Anambra State Southeast Nigeria.

In a communique issued to Journalists, the Labour Party stated that “the Convention in session empowers the National Working Committee (NWC) to fill existing vacancies in the NWC and NEC”.

The Communique signed by the National Chairman of the Party, Mr. Julius Abure and the National Secretary Mr Umar Faruk also stated that “the Convention elected the following National Officers:

LIST OF ELECTED NATIONAL OFFICERS

1. National Chairman – Julius Abure

2. Deputy National Chairman – Mr. Clement Ojukwu

3. Deputy National Chairman – Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi

4. Deputy National Chairman (NLC) – VACANT

5. Deputy National Chairman (TUC) – VACANT

6. Deputy National Chairman – VACANT

7. National Vice Chairman NC – Abraham Idoko

8. National Vice Chairman SE – Ceekay Igara

9. National Vice Chairman SS – Anthony C. Ezeagwu

10. National Secretary – Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim

11. Deputy National Secretary – Rotimi Kehinde Adekunle

12. Deputy National Secretary – Innocent Okeke

13. National Treasurer – Mrs Ngozi Doga

14. National Financial Secretary – Dayo Ekong

15. National Publicity Secretary – Mr. Ifoh Obiora

16. National Organizing Secretary – Comrade Yahuza Ahmed

17. National Legal Adviser – Barr. Kehinde Edun

18. National Women leader – Mrs. Dudu Manuga

19. National Youth Leader – Prince Kennedy Ihanotu

20. Assistant National Youth Leader NW – Abdulrahman Chindo

21. Assistant National Youth Leader SS – Barry Auotu”

 

The communique also stated that “The Convention in session encourages all groups to collapse their structure at the ward, local, and national levels into the already existing structure of the party.

The Convention in session based on the antecedents of the Presidential candidate before, during and after the 2023 General Election recommend that the 2027 Presidential ticket of the party be solely reserved for His Excellency, Mr Peter Gregory Obi, the National leader of the party.”

Furthermore, “the Convention in session reviewed ongoing development and performance of its Governor in Abia state, Dr. Alex Otti and passed a vote of confidence on him and recommend the 2027 Abia state Gubernatorial ticket of the party be reserved for His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti.”
