The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over five bags of cannabis sativa seized during an intelligence-driven operation to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Festac Area Command in Lagos state.

This is part of ongoing efforts to curb illicit drug trafficking and enhance maritime security across the country.

The consignment, weighing approximately 500 Kg, was intercepted on 18 February 2026 after the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a van suspected of transporting illicit substances around Abule Osun area of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Lagos State.

Speaking during the hand over event, the Commander, NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, stated that the successful interception reflects the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Admiralty Medal, to curb illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment.

He commended the vigilance and professionalism of naval personnel and reaffirmed the Navy’s unwavering commitment to collaborating with sister security agencies to secure the nation’s coastal corridors.

He further urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and credible information.

The seized narcotics were subsequently handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, for further investigation and necessary action.

This development further underscores the strengthening of inter-agency cooperation aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and ensuring a safer maritime domain for all.
