The National President of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Aisha Ibrahim, has inaugurated the new executives of the NAWOJ Kaduna State Chapter at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Kaduna.

The inauguration was attended by National Secretary Wasila Ladan and North West Zonal Board of Trustees member Halima Musa.

In her remarks, Aisha K. Ibrahim called for a minute of silence in honour of the late President Muhammad Buhari and the late Comrade Salamatu Babatunde. She expressed gratitude to the NUJ Kaduna Council leadership, veterans, and past leaders for their support in promoting NAWOJ’s mission.

She appreciated the past leadership, particularly the immediate past Chairperson, Fatima Aliyu, who is currently bereaved, praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul. Aisha also acknowledged the dedicated service of immediate past Secretary Maureen Sheyin, who served NAWOJ for six years, thanking all past leaders for their contributions.

Highlighting the NUJ Council’s role in her election, Aisha announced plans for a large-scale programme to gather over one hundred women journalists in Kaduna.

She congratulated newly appointed officials, including Farida Abubakar, who was appointed by Governor Uba Sani, and prayed for wisdom and strength in their service.

Aisha assured members of her commitment to secure land for the national secretariat, establish a functional website, build partnerships, and promote peace and stability within the association. She urged the new executives, led by Chairperson Comrade Sahura Maidoki, to foster unity and harmony in the chapter.

Reflecting on her leadership journey, Aisha expressed appreciation for the support received from NUJ members nationwide and called for continued collaboration. “With unity and shared purpose, NAWOJ will achieve greater impact,” she said.

North West Zonal Secretary Daharatu Aliyu welcomed the National President and expressed hope for a fruitful visit to Kaduna.

NUJ Kaduna Council Chairman Abdulgafar Alabelewe praised Aisha’s visit and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to working with NAWOJ. “Our partnership with NAWOJ remains strong,” he said.

President of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Isaiah Benjamin, commended Aisha for her dedication since taking office. “NAWOJ has grown stronger under your leadership,” he noted.

Goodwill messages came from former NUJ Vice President Comrade Yusuf Idris, Barrister Julie Ariahu of NILOWV, and Rotarian Lukeman Babatunde, all praising Aisha and the NAWOJ leadership.

Executive Director of the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC), Farida Abubakar, congratulated the new executives and stressed inclusiveness in governance, while commending the Electoral Committee. “Inclusiveness is key to effective leadership,” she stated.

In her inaugural address, new Chairperson Comrade Sahura Maidoki thanked her predecessors and promised an inclusive, transparent leadership. “We will work to strengthen NAWOJ Kaduna and ensure every member’s voice is heard,” she pledged.

The event ended with the swearing-in of the new executives, certificate presentations by the National President, and a closed-door meeting of NUJ Kaduna leaders.
