The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has invited 18 local umpires for the International Cricket Council (ICC), Umpire Tutors Course, scheduled to hold between May 9th – 11th, 2024, in Abuja.

The General Manager of the federation, Emeka Igwilo, on Thursday said that the course was aimed at improving cricket officiating.

“The course is meant for people who already know the game and have the capacity to train and impact knowledge gained from the course to others,” Igwilo said. “The game in the country is spreading fast and we need more umpires to officiate.”

“So we need people to train others in various regions of the country as well as improving the umpiring profession. This is not the first time we are doing this, but this is the first time we are having this number and this shows that our efforts as a federation is being recognised by the cricket world body.

“We will have officials from the ICC come into the country to train them. The certification is not for them to get it and go to bed but for them to get to work, improve the standard of officiating and get young umpires under their tutelage,’’ he concluded.

The 18 umpires are: Habib Enesi, Temitope Onikoyi, Olumide Akintokun, Tonye Timinadi, Kehinde Olabinwonnu, Taiwo Oladujoye , Patrick Ebi, Marvelous Oyivwi and Offiong Edidiong.

Others are Richson Tetteh, Cynthia Okegbo, Samsn Simon, Ehis Uadiale, Rajesh Pillai, Chibuike Nwankwo, Moduoe Ashafa Onoja Oche and Oliver Ngwoke.
