The Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, has reiterated that efforts are being made to rescue the army officer abducted in the institution in August and ensure such an incident never occurs again.
Major General Ibrahim Yusuf made this known while presenting a report on the August 24 attack by bandits on NDA to members of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence.
While describing the incident as unfortunate, Major General Yusuf, said that all the service chiefs have visited the academy to commiserate with the academy community and get more information on what the academy is doing to ensure that the incident does not occur again.
According to him, “Many senior retired and serving military officers have also called and visited the academy to express their support, giving the fact that the academy is dear to the whole nation.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Defence, Retired Major General Bashir Magashi, has also briefed the lawmakers on the agreement between the Nigerian Government and the Russian Federation on the fight against banditry, insurgency, kidnapping and all other vices and its implications on national security.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Babajimi Benson, in a remark before the two meetings went behind closed doors, said the reports would shed more light on the incident as well as measures being put in place to deter another occurrence while enlightening the lawmakers on the agreement between Nigeria and Russia.
