Nenwe indigenes celebrate maiden cultural carnival in Abuja

Culture has been described as an integral part of human identity and if lost could lead to the destruction of social foundation.

Group Capt. Joseph Orji (rtd), former Military Administrator of Gombe state stated this at the maiden 2022 Nenwe Day and Cultural Carnival held in Abuja.

Nenwe town consists of four autonomous communities – Amoji, Agbada, Emudo and Uhueze communities.

Orji said the carnival was also an avenue for interactions between Nenwe sons and daughters and showcasing the town’s much valued cultural heritage to Nigerians and the world.

“Despite the challenges confronting our nation at the moment, the people of Nenwe deemed it expedient to this year’s cultural day in Abuja.”

“It is our hope that other Nigerians will have the opportunity to witness the event and be treated to lavish cultural entertainment.” Orji added.

“This indeed is a big opportunity to cement relationships between Nenwe indigenes and guests which this cultural carnival provides.”

Apart from celebrating Nenwe culture and traditions, the carnival witnessed the launching of the N20 million endowment fund was aimed at boosting education, security and other social amenities in the town.

According to Kingsley Ndubuisi, Chairman of Nenwe Improvement Union Abuja branch, the launching would address the security, Infrastructural and educational needs of the Nenwe community.

“We hold our various clan meetings quarterly at different locations in Abuja. Our representatives are always present to give feedback to our brothers and sisters back in Enugu.

“The welfare of Nenwe people in Abuja as well as those back home is of top priority. This carnival will promote unity in our community and also share same values with other Nigerians,” Ndubuisi concluded.

Other highpoints of the carnival were cultural dances, poem recitations and a paper presentation.
