New FCT CP reads riot act to criminals

The New Commissioner of Police, in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory, FCT Command, CP Babaji Sunday has read the riot act to criminals perpetrating crimes within the nation’s capital to hands up or face the full wrath of the law.

The Commissioner sent the warning to the criminals in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital while parading eight suspected criminals arrested one week to his resumption of duty at the Command.

While briefing Journalists on his maiden press conference, CP Babaji Sunday said some of the items recovered from them include one locally fabricated pistol, one car recovered and six bags of Indian hemp.

CP Sunday revealed that acting on credible intelligence, on 11th August 2021, Police operatives from Bwari Division arrested one Usman Abdullahi 37 years and Sanusi Adamu 30 years both male, who are residents of Mpape and Masaka respectively at Shere axis a boundary between Mpape and Bwari.

He added that the suspects who confessed to the crime were arrested while vandalising AEDC high tension aluminum cables.

” Preliminary investigation revealed that they belong to the syndicate suspected to be sabotaging the effort of the FCT administration to provide electricity for FCT residents along Shere-Bwari axis. Effort is in top gear to arrest other members of the syndicate at large“, he explained.

The Commissioner also disclosed that, on the 9th of August, 2021, during a routine patrol, operatives of the Command’s anti-violent crime section arrested one Justice Ezeogu ‘m’ 36 years with six bags of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana along Nyanya axis of the FCT.

He hinted that the suspect has also confessed to being a merchant of Indian hemp and will be handed over to NDLEA for further investigation.

Speaking further, the Commissioner stated that, on 6th August 2021, during a routine patrol, operatives of the Command Anti-violent crime arrested one Ndifereke Samuel ‘m’ 36 years along Area One axis of the FCT for one chance robbery.

While revealing that, he will consolidate on the legacies of his predecessor, the FCT police boss said the command would ensure that it enhances proactive intelligence-based crime-fighting strategies to nip the bud within the FCT.

He stated categorically that no criminal elements will be tolerated within the FCT, adding that anyone with criminal intentions should either repent or be prepared to face the full wrath of the law.

He reassured members of the public of the command’s undeterred resolve to protect lives and property within the city

He used the medium to restate that, the fundamental responsibility of the command remains to ensure the delivery of quality security services to residents and stakeholders of the FCT.

He said, ” the command must synergise with all stakeholders bearing in mind that security is everyone’s business. I’m confident that the already existing collaborations with the FCTA, sister security agencies, key community stakeholders and the media will definitely aid the fight against crime within the FCT”. 

” I crave the indulgence of the well-meaning residents of the FCT to promptly report any suspicious movements or emergency cases to the command for necessary action, noting that the command has circulated it distress call lines in the media and place them at strategic locations within the city“, he assured the residents.
