Newly promoted Bendel Insurance kicked off the 2022/2023 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season with a 2-0 victory against Akwa United, at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
In the 38th minute, Imade Osehenkhoe opened the scoring on Match Day 1 after a pass by Divine Nwachukwu fell to the forward. It was a brilliant piece of skill and pace from Nwachukwu that opened the space for the goal.
Just before halftime, Seriki Ismael extended the lead for Bendel Insurance to give his side control of the game, with Akwa United having a a mountain to climb in the second half.
2021 champions Akwa United created a few chances in the second half, but could not find a way to break down the defence of Bendel Insurance as the match finished 2-0.
After a few years away from the NPFL, Bendel Insurance have made a positive start to the season and would hope to keep the momentum going into the next round of fixtures.
