NGO advocates to ramp up Malaria in Nasarawa State

Malaria Consortium, a nonprofit organisation whose goal is to eradicate malaria in Nasarawa State, Northcentral Nigeria, said that in order to advance its efforts to eradicate malaria among children under five years old, more effective campaigning must be made.

At a two-day capacity-building workshop for Social Mobilisation Officers from all thirteen local government areas of the state, the Zonal Programme Manager of the Malaria Consortium, Hajiya Hafsat Musa-Baba, made this statement.

She said, “The workshop aimed to equip participants with enhanced knowledge and skills necessary for the effective discharge of their responsibilities.”

Musa-Baba stressed the importance of seeking advocacy from relevant stakeholders to ensure project success and taught attendees about the effective use of an advocacy toolkit.

Speaking, Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer(M&E), Elisha Zechariah Maleeks shed light on utilizing awareness data as a means to measure program effectiveness and identify areas where information and mobilization activities need to be intensified.

Also speaking, the Director of Social Mobilization at the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Ibrahim Muhammad, encouraged mobilization officers to improve their data collection techniques and increase awareness among the public regarding the importance of administering the full dose of SPAQ to their children.

The Director of Social Mobilization further acknowledged a reduction in the malaria burden in Nasarawa State due to interventions, he emphasized the need for continued efforts to achieve the set goals.

A participant at the workshop, the Social Mobilization Officer Awe Local Government Area, Suleiman Mahmud, appreciates the Malaria Consortium for imparting knowledge and skills that would help in the discharge of our duties.

Mahmud, therefore promises to utilize the knowledge gained in the workshop.
