A Non-Governmental Organisation, Transfer of Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE), has donated a N5million motorised solar power borehole to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Plateau Council.

The Chief Executive Officer, TASTE, Mr Ben Odejiofor, inaugurating the project in Jos on Tuesday said the project was supported by a Patron of the organisation, Mr Dan Walker, a Journalist in the UK.

The 10,000 capacity water facility was donated to provide a conducive working environment for journalists in the secretariat and also provided potable water to communities in the area.

“I have great joy in my heart to commission this water project which is donated by our organisation to journalists in Plateau and surrounding communities to provide a conducive working environment for journalists and potable drinking water for people around.

“As we commission this, I pray that the communities here will enjoy this; the journalists will enjoy it and for anyone who uses it to remember that this project is brought about by God’s goodness.

“As journalists, we are looking unto you that as you write, we expect truth, integrity and honesty, because as Christian, we belief in charity and that is what we stand for,” he said.

The Board Secretary, TASTE, Mrs Julie Anpe, applauded the contribution of journalists to the society, adding that safe drinking water provision was one of the most critical environmental health interventions.

Anpe said, “This would help to prevent water and sanitation-related diseases, and improve nourishment and religious purposes.
She urged the NUJ to protect the facility and use it for the interest of humanity.”

The Chairman of NUJ in Plateau, Mr Paul Jatau, while applauding the partnership, said that lack of water supply had been a major challenge in the secretariat.

Jatau said the water facility would improve the living condition of journalists in the secretariat and also provide drinking water to community members in the area.

He promised that the facility would be used to serve humanity and properly maintained.
