A Non Governmental Organisation, NGO known as Regina Ogbonnaeke Empowerment Foundation, ROEF has donated seven Wheelchairs to persons with disabilities.
The President of the Foundation, Mr Ifeanyi Adonu, made this known to Journalists during the celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities at Women Development Center Abakaliki, the State Capital.
The President said the persons with Disabilities are passing through difficulties, hence the donation.
“I believe that this would go a long way in alleviating the pains they pass through to move from one place to another”. Mr Ifeanyi stated.
The Wheelchairs were received from the NGO by State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Chinwe Okah in Conjunction with office of Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor and were distributed to the disabled during the occasion.
The Chairman Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities JONAPWD, Mr Chieme Odumegwu thanked the NGO and Ebonyi State Government for remembering them and for creating enabling environment to operate.
He preyed God Almighty to bless the NGO and Ebonyi State Government.
The theme of this year’s event is “Leadership and Participation of persons with Disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post- COVID -19″.
