A Non-Governmental Organisation, Hercode has trained women at the Dirumi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp as part of efforts to advance Sustainable Development Goal 5, which focuses on achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls
The women were trained on liquid soup making, Perfume making, disinfectant making amongst others.

The Founder of Hercode Technology Initiative, Dr. Ada Oluchi Uformadu, said that “the training would empower the women and contribute to their financial growth.”
She said that the training held under the Hercode EmpowerHer project is to teach women how to be productive and have economic values.
“Today we are here with Hercode Technology Initiative EmpowerHer. We are here under the SDG5 of the UN, which is to empower all women and girls. So, today, we are empowering women in this ODP Camp to give them entrepreneurial skills and teach them how to be productive.
“We want to teach them how to fish. We are confident that after this programme, they will not just be in the camps, but it will give them value to be able to contribute to economic growth,.” Dr. Uformadu said.
She also commended the participants for their willingness to learn.
“The participants, they are active, they are willing to learn. We can see that the room is full. They are eager to take advantage of this opportunity. In their vulnerable state, we understand their vulnerability and that’s why we are here compassionate and ready to empower them and help facilitate their movement out of poverty,” She said.
The Coordination of the Dirumi IDP Camp, Mr. Idriss Halilu urged other well meaning Nigerians tand Non Governmental Organizations in Nigeria to emulate the Hercode EmpowerHer initiative.
He said that the NGO has shown great example.
“Give a man loads of rice, you’ve given him food for a day. Teach him how to fish, you’ve given him food for life. So, by this training, I want to assure you that the trainees will train others. It’s a life giving initiative,” Mr. Idriss said.
He however appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urge Humanitarian agencies to do there work.
The beneficiaries of the training were optimistic that the skills acquired will have impact on their lives.
Mrs Fatima Abubakar said that she has been in the camp for over ten years and no one has ever organized anything traditional for them.
She said she learnt soap making which will her and her family.
“ I learn something today. I’ve been here for almost ten years, nobody has trained me on anything that will bring me money. From this I’ll make money to solve my problems”. She said.
The women were presented with a certificate of participation by Hercode Technology Initiative EmpowerHer.
