NGOs donate modern vesico virginal fistula treatment centre to Niger state

NGOs has donated modern vesico virginal fistula (VVF) treatment centre to Niger state government, that will complements the two hundreds and seventy four functional primary healthcare centres provided in each ward of the state.
Niger State Governor, Abubukar Sani Bello commended Raise Foundation and Mainstream Foundation while making his presentation at the commissioning ceremony of Dr Amina Bello Women Health Centre, Kontagora, for paying attention to women health in the state.
He charged other privates cooperates and individual bodies to emulates the two non governmental organisations good gestures as an act of dispensing their social responsibilities.
The Governor hopes that very soon the centre will be converted to general hospital, so that VVF problem will be defeated in the state, as he asked women to always go for Antenatal and ensure going to the hospitals for child birth.
“We pray that soon we will use this centre as general health facility for women as we are hoping to, with proper sensitization to rural women, they will go to hospitals or primary Health care centres to give birth.”
The founder of Raise Foundation, Dr Amina Abubakar Sani Bello, who is also the wife of the Governor, in her speech said, the presentation of the ultra modern and well equipped women heath centre to the state government is coming at a period when Nigeria and other countries are preparing to marks the annual International day to end Obstetric Fistula (IDEOF) on 23 May, as set by the united Nation.
“It is a day that is to support and draw attention to activities targeting the elimination of fistula around the worldwith the theme, “Hope, healing and diginity for all.
“The construction of the VVF centre in Kontagora was a fruit of a collaboration between the Raise Foundation that has been working on maternal health.
“Mainstream Foundation after series of joint Fistula Obstetrics Camps in Bida, Sabo Wuse , minna and Kontagora about five times,where more than three hundred women benefited and repaired successfully,” she explained.
“The Experience of the camps demonstrated to us different treatment made on the lives of the women and show us the need to continued to provide these sort of services.
“Therefore we decided to include the treatment work and rehabilitation that Raise Foundation provides from 2015 to 2020,” she added.
The Amina Bello women Health Centre was built as a result of strong agreement between the two foundations to address all aspects related to the treatment and rehabilitation of fistula patient.
The centre comprises of a hospital where women are provided with surgical treatment and post operative management, a hostel for patents to stay at least for a month to recuperate before discharge and a skill acquisition centre for training that will empower them emotionally, psychologically and financially to enable them reintegrated back to their communities.
The Minister of Health Dr Osagie Ehanire who was represented by Mrs Tinuola Tilo, Director Fistula in the ministry asked government at all levels to keep on recruiting professional in the health sector, as the federal government is ever ready to support the efforts of the state.
