The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Umara Zulum has visited Ngoshe community in Gwoza Local Government Area, following a deadly insurgent attack that left several residents dead and others abducted.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, prompted the Governor to visit the affected community to commiserate with residents.

Governor Zulum described the incident as unfortunate and assured them that the government and security agencies are intensifying efforts to restore stability in the area.

He said; “troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have already moved into the town to clear landmines and other dangerous explosives suspected to have been planted by the attackers.”

The Governor also assured residents that efforts are ongoing to rescue those abducted and strengthen security across communities affected by insurgent activities.

He said; “We are here to commiserate with the people of Ngoshe. What happened is very sad. We also brought relief items for the victims. The GOC and his troops have gone into the town to clear landmines and other explosives.”

“For now, we cannot give the exact number of casualties because the assessment is still ongoing. But many people were killed and several others abducted. However, the Nigerian military is doing everything possible to rescue those abducted.

“I want to appeal to residents to remain calm and law-abiding as there are ongoing military operations around the Sambisa axis. The insurgents were pushed out earlier and carried out coordinated attacks, which is why we witnessed the incident.”

The Governor said; “Fortunately, the attack was repelled and they were severely dealt with. Insha’Allah, the government will double its efforts to ensure this madness comes to an end. We will not relent in bringing lasting stability to our state.

“What we need now is more deployment of military personnel, additional equipment and modern technology so that the security agencies can handle the situation effectively. The state government will continue to complement the efforts of the military.”

During the visit, relief materials were also delivered to displaced residents as part of the state government’s immediate response to support victims of the attack.

Governor Zulum explained that the government has adopted a collective feeding arrangement for displaced persons rather than distributing food items individually.

“At a later stage, we will see how to properly reorganise and support them. However, I believe in the next few days the people will return to their homes once the area has been fully secured.

The Mandara Hills remain a serious concern to all of us. The insurgents usually come down from the Mandara Hills to attack communities and then retreat back into the hills. That is why I am calling on the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Government to work assiduously to clear the Mandara Hills.

Without clearing the Hills, these attacks may continue. The insurgents can descend, carry out attacks and return to the hills again. Addressing this issue is the only sustainable solution.”
