The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Dr Ayodeji Amobonye Emmanuel on his recognition among the world’s top two per cent of scientists, in a global list published by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier.

In a statement signed by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, commended Dr Amobonye for his outstanding contributions to scientific research and innovation, especially in Biotechnology.

Dabiri-Erewa described the recognition as a testament to his academic brilliance and the global impact of Nigerian scholars.

She urged him to “continue blazing the trail in scientific innovation and discovery,” while serving as an inspiration for young Nigerian scientists.

NiDCOM celebrates Dr Amobonye for being a beacon of excellence and a worthy ambassador of Nigeria in the global scientific community.

“His achievement not only elevates the image of Nigeria in the diaspora but also serves as an inspiration to the young scientists across Nigeria,” Dabiri-Erewa affirmed.

Dr Amobonye, a Biotechnology specialist, earned his PhD at the Durban University of Technology in South Africa, where he also lectured and conducted research.

He currently serves as a Research Fellow at the Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania.

The Stanford-Elsevier ranking identifies leading scientists across 22 scientific disciplines and 174 subfields worldwide, based on the impact of their publications.

NiDCOM notes that Amobonye’s inclusion underscores his significant contributions to global knowledge production.

A product of Nigeria’s higher education system, he obtained his first degree at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and a Master’s degree from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

He also previously worked with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
