The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has expressed commendation for the Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (UNRI), a non-governmental organization.
This recognition acknowledges UNRI’s efforts in safeguarding and promoting Nigeria’s positive image on a global scale.
Receiving the delegation, the Secretary of NiDCOM Dr. Sule Yakubu Bassi, lauded the Initiative for its commitment to rewriting the negative news about Nigeria.
Bassi outlined NiDCOM’s mandate and activities to include, empowering, and harnessing the contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora for national development.
He equally acknowledged the challenges of misinformation and negative perceptions, and their political, socio-economic and developmental effects on the country.
The Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to work with credible partners and stakeholders to promote a balanced global narrative of Nigeria and urged the group to strategically align their vision with NiDCOM’s diaspora engagement framework.
UNRI spokesperson, Brig. Gen. David Buba Shaljaba (Rtd) explained that the Initiative is designed to highlight Nigeria’s strengths in culture, innovation, and diplomacy while inspiring young Nigerians with employable skills that drive self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
He emphasised that a collaboration with NiDCOM would help strengthen the impact of the Initiative and extend its reach across the global diaspora network.
The Unveiling and Rebranding Nigeria Initiative (UNRI) is a non-governmental organisation established to project Nigeria’s positive image.
First conceived in 2007, the initiative was formally launched as a body in 2025. Its mission is to rebrand Nigeria by showcasing the nation’s vast potential through storytelling, digital campaigns, cultural diplomacy, creativity, and innovation.
