Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State, North-central Nigeria, has dissolved the State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC).

This was announced via a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman, on Sunday in Minna, the State capital.

The dissolution, he said, is with effect from 29th May 2023.

“Members of the commission are directed to hand over all property of the State government in their possession to the most senior director with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, it would be recalled that the Niger State House of Assembly had on 27th September 2022 sacked the Chairman of NSIEC, Alhaji Baba Aminu, over alleged misconduct.
