The Alumni Association of the Federal Government-owned Academy for the Gifted and Talented located in Suleja, Niger State, has completed and donated projects worth N200 million to the school to help alleviate their challenges.
The projects initiated by the 2004 set and supported by other sets whose members are in and outside the country include Solar power, renovation of hostels, clinics, dining, laundry, and water systems of the school, among others.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Nasir Sani-Gwarzo who commissioned the projects, said that the development is a testament to the enduring legacy of the great institution, which continues to mold the minds of the nation’s brightest children.
“‘It is also a testament to the commitment and gratitude of its alumni, who have returned to give back to the Institution that played a pivotal role in shaping their future.”
He said since inception of the Academy in 1990, it has stood as a beacon of hope and innovation in education as it has not only catered to gifted and talented children but has also challenged them to realize their full potential.
“As we look around and witness the contributions of the alumni, it is clear that the foundation laid here is yielding tremendous results.
“I wish to applaud the efforts of the alumni for their commitment to this noble cause by investing in these projects, you have demonstrated an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education and the critical role this academy plays in shaping future leaders.
“Your contributions serve as an inspiration to current students, showing them that the values of hard work, service, and patriotism are not merely taught here-they are lived out in the lives of graduates.”
The Permanent Secretary who was represented by the Director Secondary Education of the ministry, Hajia Binta Abdulkadir commended the school management, teachers, and students for keeping faith in the school.
He urged them to ensure the protection and maintenance of the projects as it would not only enhance the learning environment but also instill a sense of pride and responsibility among the students.
“One day, you too will join the ranks of these distinguished alumni, and we hope to see you giving back just as they have.
‘let us all remember that the success of this institution is not the responsibility of one group alone, it is a shared commitment-between government, alumni, staff, parents, and students Together, we can ensure that the Federal Government Academy, Suleja, continues to shine at a symbol of excellence and a cradle of future leaders.”
Principal of the Academy, Haja Asmau Abdullahi said the projects worth about N200 million Naira speaks of the importance of the school assuring the Alumni that the School authority will do everything possible to keep them safe for a very long time.
“The renovation which is almost N200 million Naira includes: the toilets, laundry, painting of rooms in the hostess, replacement of all old pipes for high pressure water system, installation of Solar power in the hostels, provision of facilities in the dining, clinic among others.
“Students who destroy the facilities will be dealt with every Monday of the week in the Assembly ground. Moreso, a letter of undertaking will be sent to their parents for them to sign a bond for them to pay if any of the facilities is destroyed by any student,” she said.
President of the Alumni association, Dapo Adesina said the group are happy to give back to the school, owing to some challenging experiences they had as students in the school.
“After 20 years, the 2004 set supported by other sets decided to come back and give back to the School.
“There was a time that I had to relocate from my hostel to another because the roof was turned off by wind and I don’t want you to have a similar experience when you resume next, hence the renovation.
“I urge you all to take care of the facilities. I also commend the current principal of the school for cooperating and making it easy for us to execute the projects,” he said
The Head Boy of the school, Abdulhafeez Abdulganiyu appreciated efforts of the Alumni association, while promising to use his position to safeguard the facilities for common good of all.
The Federal Government Academy for the Gifted and talented, Suleja was established in 1990 by then Minister of Education Professor Jibrin Aminu, to cater for exceptionally gifted and talented students who can comprehend and use the school curriculum far earlier than their age in school
