Niger State confirms kidnap of its Information Commissioner

Niger State Government in North Central Nigeria has confirmed the kidnap of the Commissioner for Information Mohammed Sani Idris.

According to the Spokesperson of the Governor of the State Mrs. Mary Berje, the Commissioner was kidnapped by bandits at about 1 am on Monday at his home at Baban Tunga village in Tafa local government of the State.

Mrs. Berje confirmed that security agencies have already been drafted to trail the bandits with a view to apprehending them.

It would be recalled that the Niger state government had recently launched a joint Police and vigilante team in Kagara area of the state to curtail the resurgence of banditry activities in the zone.

Voice of Nigeria also reports that over 130 Tegina Islamiya pupils kidnapped in Rafi Local government area of the state are yet to regain freedom after series of negotiations.

Niger state government has previously announced ruling out payment of ransoms to bandits for the release of kidnapped victims.
