The Niger State Governor, north central Nigeria, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attack on communities in Borgu Local Government Area of the state, describing the incident as a cruel and nefarious act that has brought pain and devastation to innocent citizens.

In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the Governor lamented that the attack resulted in the loss of many lives, the abduction of several residents, and the destruction of livelihoods within the affected communities.

Governor Bago extended his heartfelt condolences to the people of the area, particularly the families of the victims, assuring them of the state government’s support during this difficult time.

According to him, “Those affected by the attack at Kasuwan Daji Market, Sukumbara Village, include both Muslims and Christians drawn from different communities in Borgu Local Government Area, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the violence.”

Describing it as disturbing and worrisome to begin the year with such tragic events, the governor urged residents to remain steadfast in their faith and not lose hope. He assured them that his administration is working closely with the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen security in the affected areas and prevent further attacks.

The governor disclosed that, “A joint security team is currently on the trail of the attackers, with efforts focused on rescuing those who were kidnapped during the assault.”

Governor Bago also prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed, the safe return of the abducted victims, the speedy recovery of the injured, and the restoration of livelihoods destroyed in the attack.
