Niger State launches e- learning platform for youths, children

Niger state government in North Central Nigeria,has launched a platform to supports learning among children and youths. This platform was launched in partnership with Global Partnership Education (GPE) and UNICEF.
The new platform known as Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) according to the Niger State Commissioner for Education, Hajia Hannatu Jibrin Salihu, is an online e-learning platform with mobile and offline capability that enables continuous access to quality education.
The Commissioner for Education, who stated this at the official launching of NLP in Minna the Niger State Capital, mentioned that the platform is meant to incorporate Information Technology Communication (ICT) and other classroom technology to better education in the state.
“It is flexible and adaptable, allowing states to easily and quickly adopt the platform as their learning management system or use it to complement existing digital learning efforts’’, added Hajia Salihu
She said the platform which was developed to support children and youths learning and skill acquisition, provide over 13,000 digitalized curriculum instructional and supplementary learning materials in core curricular subjects from primary one to six, JSS 1 to 6 and SS 1 to 3.
Mr Emmanuel Umar, the Niger State Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, who represented the Governor at the event,said the state government had provided over 500 computers and 300 ICT tablets and ICT laboratories to enhance teaching and learning.
