The Consul General of Chinese Embassy in Lagos, Ms Yan Yuqing, says Nigeria and China are strategic partners, with engagement between the two countries serving as an example for  promotion of equal and orderly multipolarity of the world.

The Chinese Consul General made this known at the Lagos Forum 2024 during a book launch cun lecture and interactive session held on Thursday, March 21 at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

At the event, themed “The Chinese in the Nigerian Economy – Deepening Development Cooperation: Towards A Shared Future, A Better World” it was highlighted that the economic and trade cooperation between Nigeria and China is an important force in promoting inclusive economic globalisation.

Ms Yuping says  “_This is a good start and I believe it will become an important platform for in-depth exchanges between China and Nigeria. China and Nigeria are strategic partners, and the engagement between the two countries is a vivid example of the promotion of equal and orderly multipolarity of the world. I believe that China-Nigeria economic and trade cooperation will be steady and far-reaching, and will achieve even greater splendour_.” She opined.

She also added that ” A better world will not be easily realised overnight, but she is  full of hope because China’s future is bright and because Nigeria is striving to find the right path forward.

“__ I hope that the Lagos Forum will be a new source of strength for deepening China-Nigeria relations. I believe that by taking the first step today, we are one step closer to a better world__.” She said.

Meanwhile, The Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Professor Eghosa Osaghae said Nigeria like many other countries is at the forefront of saying, we must reform every  multilateral institution.

“ _Nigeria must have a permanent seat in the United Nations, so the place to beginning is we share these interests. How far can China for instance help Nigeria to deconstruct a global power structure using continuous decolonisation as an instrument for ensuring that the global order or globalisation works for Nigeria_”.

Relations between Nigeria and China have expanded on growing bilateral trade and strategic cooperation.

Nigeria is China’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, being  the largest economy and the most populous country in the African continent
