Nigeria and China have signed a new framework agreement aimed at strengthening bilateral economic ties and advancing cooperation in key sectors critical to development.
The Ministry in a statement disclosed that the agreement was signed between Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, and China’s Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, establishing a flexible platform to guide future negotiations between both countries.
The framework outlines priority areas including trade facilitation, inclusive and green growth, resilient supply chains, and the digital economy, with specific areas of cooperation to be developed based on mutual agreement.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Oduwole said, “This Agreement provides a structured yet flexible platform for deepening economic cooperation between Nigeria and China in areas critical to our national development priorities.”
She emphasised Nigeria’s pragmatic approach to trade.
“For Nigeria, trade is not about blocs or ideology—it is about delivering real outcomes for our people. Our engagement is guided by the imperative of industrialization, job creation, and export diversification aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR,”she said.
The Minister further reiterated the country’s commitment to expanding global partnerships.
“We will continue to explore and pursue partnerships that strengthen Nigeria’s position in regional and global value chains, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable growth,” Oduwole added.
The agreement forms part of Nigeria’s broader strategy to enhance trade and investment, boost competitiveness, and position the country as a leading economic hub in Africa.
It also reflects growing economic collaboration between Nigeria and China, as both nations seek to leverage opportunities in global trade and development.
