Nigeria’s Super Falcons reaffirmed its dominance in African women’s football by winning a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, staging a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final on Saturday in Rabat.
Trailing 2-0 with just over half an hour to play, Nigeria’s charge was led by Esther Okoronkwo, whose pivotal contributions one goal and two assists turned the game on its head and sealed an emotional and historic victory at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

The victory was particularly sweet for Nigeria, who had been eliminated by Morocco in the semi-finals of the 2022 edition. That loss had ended their quest for a 10th title at the time, making Saturday’s comeback all the more symbolic.
Morocco, who were also runners-up in 2022, have shown consistent growth under head coach Jorge Vilda, the Spaniard who led his home country to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup title before taking charge of the North African side.
In the third-place match on Friday, Ghana defeated South Africa—the 2022 champions—on penalties to claim the bronze medal.
With this triumph, the Super Falcons not only secured continental glory but also reinforced their status as the powerhouse of women’s football in Africa.
